Aaron Joseph Neville (born January 24, 1941) is a retired American R&B and soul singer. He has had four platinum albums and four Elevation 10 hits in the United States, including three that reached number one on Billboard'due south Adult Contemporary chart. "Tell It Like It Is", from 1966, also reached the top position on the Soul nautical chart for 5 weeks.
He has also recorded with his brothers Art, Charles and Cyril equally the Neville Brothers and is the begetter of vocalist/keyboards histrion Ivan Neville. Neville is of mixed African-American, Caucasian, and Native American (Choctaw) heritage.

In return, Ronstadt produced his platinum-selling 1990 album Warm Your Heart including the hitting single "Everybody Plays the Fool", a embrace of the 1972 Main Ingredient song, which reached No. 8 on the Hot 100 and another duet with Ronstadt "Close Your Optics".
During 1993 and 1994, Neville expanded his repertoire every bit a recording artist and ventured into making country music. In 1993, Neville released the platinum-selling The Chiliad Tour on A&M Records with pb single "Don't Take Away My Heaven" reaching No. 4 on the Adult Contemporary nautical chart (where previous hits "Don't Know Much", "All My Life", and "Everybody Plays the Fool" all reached number one). Neville's next country music project involved actualization on 1994'due south Rhythm, State and Blues, an album of duets featuring R&B and Country artists performing renditions of archetype country and R&B songs. He initially went to Austin temporarily visiting his friend Clifford Antone, then moved to Nashville, Tennessee, after the storm.[vi] and, failing to return to the city by early 2008, caused the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival to temporarily change its tradition of having the Neville Brothers shut the festival. Even so, the Neville Brothers, including Aaron, returned for the 2008 Jazzfest, which returned to its traditional seven-mean solar day format for the commencement time since Katrina.[6] He then decided to move back to the New Orleans expanse, namely the Due north Shore city of Covington.[6] Neville performed Randy Newman'south "Louisiana 1927" during NBC'south A Concert for Hurricane Relief on September 2, 2005.
Neville signed to SonyBMG's new Burgundy Records label in late 2005 and recorded an album of songs by Otis Redding, Marvin Gaye, Curtis Mayfield, Sam Cooke and others for Bring It On Dwelling...The Soul Classics, released on September 19, 2006. The album, produced by Stewart Levine, features collaborations between Neville and Chaka Khan, Mavis Staples, Chris Botti, David Sanborn, Fine art Neville, and others. The album'due south first single was a remake of The Impressions' 1963 classic "It's All Correct".
Neville's career has included work for television, movies and sporting events. Neville sang the US national anthem in the motion-picture show The Fan starring Robert De Niro and Wesley Snipes. He too sang the canticle at the WWF's SummerSlam 1993 and at WCW'due south Spring Stampede 1994. Neville sang the theme music to the children's Television set series Fisher-Cost Little People. He also sang a new version of "Cotton fiber", for Cotton Incorporated which was introduced during the 1992 Summer Olympics. In 1988 he recorded "Mickey Mouse March" for Stay Awake: Diverse Interpretations of Music from Vintage Disney Films, one of Various Artists. In 2006, Neville performed a rendition of "The Star-Spangled Banner", alongside Aretha Franklin and Dr. John on keyboards at Super Bowl Forty in Detroit, Michigan. In addition, Neville (along with brothers Art and Cyril) did background vocals for the songs "Neat Middle", "Bring Back the Magic", "Homemade Music", "My Barracuda", and "Smart Adult female (in a Real Brusk Brim)" on Jimmy Buffett's Hot H2o, released in 1988.
Neville is interviewed on screen and appears in performance footage with the Neville Brothers in the 2005 documentary film Arrive Funky!, which presents a history of New Orleans music and its influence on rhythm and blues, rock and roll, funk and jazz.[seven] The Nevilles perform "Fire on the Bayou" in the film.[8]
On October 27, 2006, Neville fabricated a guest appearance on an episode of the lather opera The Young and the Restless.[9] He sang "Stand by Me" and "Ain't No Sunshine", from his album, Bring It On Home ... The Soul Classics. In 2008 he released Gold, which includes a double album of his hits.
In 2009, Neville, along with the Mt. Zion Mass Choir, released a version of the song "A Change Is Gonna Come" on the compilation album Oh Happy Twenty-four hour period.[ten]
In 2010, Neville and his blood brother Art performed with The Meters.[11]
Neville was the featured artist for the 100th Anniversary Commemoration of the University of Memphis Centennial Concert September 30, 2011, at the Cannon Center for the Performing Arts.[12]
In 2011, Neville, along with The Blind Boys of Alabama and Mavis Staples had toured New Zealand.[13]
In Jan 2013, paying tribute to the songs of his youth, Blueish Note Records released Neville's My Truthful Story, a drove of 12 doo-wop tunes, produced by Don Was and Keith Richards, with backing by musicians such equally Benmont Tench and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.[14]
In March 2015, he was named the twelvemonth's recipient of the Laetare Medal.

Personal life [edit]
Neville is from New Orleans, Louisiana. He has mixed African-American, Caucasian, and Native American (Choctaw) heritage.[17] His uncle, George "Big Chief Jolly" Landry, was lead singer of the Mardi Gras Indian group the Wild Tchoupitoulas.
Neville got his facial tattoo (of a sword) when he was sixteen years old. Speaking to Billboard in 2019, he recalled that "My dad made me scrub it with Brillo Pads and Octagon Soap. The skin came off, simply the tattoo stayed. But some years later, I had an album out chosen The Tattooed Heart [in 1995], and we were doing a special affair in a tattoo parlor, and so I let them get over it and outline it - freshen it up."[18]
Neville married Joel (pronounced JOE-el) Roux-Neville (1941-2007) on January 10, 1959. Together they had iv children Ernestine, Ivan, Aaron "Fred", and Jason Neville. [19]
In 2008, during a People magazine photo shoot, Neville met photographer Sarah A. Friedman, who had been hired to have a portrait of the Neville Brothers. Neville and Friedman were married on November 13, 2010, in New York Urban center at the restaurant Eleven Madison Park.[20]
Neville's oldest son, Ivan, is also a musician and released an album, If My Ancestors Could See Me At present, in 1988 which yielded a Top forty hit with "Non Just Some other Girl". Ivan has also performed with Spin Doctors, the Rolling Stones and Bonnie Raitt, and played keyboards for Keith Richards on his first solo tour. Ivan then assembled his ain ring (Ivan Neville's Dumpstaphunk) which tours and frequently appears in New Orleans.
Neville's tertiary son, Jason, is a vocalist and rap artist who has performed with his begetter and with the Neville Brothers, notably at the 2009 New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival.[21]
Neville is the uncle of journalist and Fox News personality Arthel Neville.[22]
Neville is Catholic, with a devotion to St. Jude, to whom he has credited his success and survival. He wears a St. Jude Medal as a left earring.[23]
